Undoing a merge

Learn how you can undo an accidental merge:
  • Please note: merges can only be undone in individual pairs. Bulk merges are extremely difficult and sometimes impossible to undo in bulk. You should always take care when running merges. If you have accidentally bulk merged a large number of contacts, contact us.
  • Go to the newly merged contact or company record directly.
  • In the “History” section, look for the merge activity log. It’ll appear as “You merged [Name] with another contact.”
  • Mouse over that activity log, and then select the “Undo merge” option that appears.
  • A dialog will open that lists the original two contacts, and the merged contact.
  • Please note: undoing the merge will restore the original two merged contacts. The merged version will also remain, and you’ll be left with a total of three records after undoing a merge.
  • Select “Undo the merge.”
  • Then, select one of the records to open them in a new tab. Or, select “Ok” to return to the merged version of the record and delete if necessary.
  • Please note: you can only undo merges if you have “Edit” access to the original records and the merged record. If the “Undo merge” option doesn’t appear, contact an admin on your account for help undoing the merge.
