What new features and improvements are coming in the future?

Our team of developers works hard every day to make the CRM better. We'll periodically update this article with some of the projects we have on our roadmap. Keep in mind, we're posting this information to give curious users an idea of what's on our mind, but the development plan often changes quickly, so nothing is set in stone! Much of what's shown here is likely to change. That said, unless otherwise specified, all new features will be included in the software at no additional cost.

Custom Contact Fields
Right now, custom contact fields are limited to only text fields. We will be expanding contact fields to support all of the types that already exist in custom pipeline fields, and adding some additional field types to both pipelines and contact/company records as well. We will also allow you to set up different fields for contacts vs. companies, and even hide any of the default fields that you don't want to see.

Improved Tasks
Tasks got some minor improvements in the overhaul of the calendar, but events were the main focus of those changes. Tasks are another area where there's a lot of room to make the feature more powerful/dynamic. We'll consider possible additions like reordering task lists, task reminders, recurring tasks, and other ideas we've collected from our customers over the years.

Universal Search
The CRM's search feature is focused primarily on looking at the fields on those contacts, and does not currently search notes, events, emails, and other activity in the contact's history. A universal search tool would pull all account activity into the fold, allowing more general keyword queries and easier note search.

We have a huge list of ideas for the future and we can't wait to get to them all. Our #1 priority is to keep the software simple and easy to use, but we think that many of these new ideas will make the tool even easier. If you're wondering how the CRM has changed in the past, here's a history of a handful of our major past improvements. This isn't an exhaustive list, but it is a blast from the past, and includes some of the major shifts in the product dating way back to our founding in 2009!

  • February 11, 2015Major improvements to the speed and layout of the calendar, as well as other minor calendar upgrades
  • August 27, 2014: Improvement to bulk merging options and auto-formatting US phone numbers
  • July 28, 2014: "Draft" saving for notes to avoid accidental loss of entered text
  • July 11, 2014: Contact tagging on tasks, added tasks to mobile site
  • May 30, 2014: Advanced filtering tools for contact lists and pipeline reports
  • May 7, 2014: New report for sorting and filtering your CRM tasks
  • March 4, 2014: More powerful sorting on contact lists and pipeline reports
  • January 8, 2014: Multi-group "and/or" filtering and multi-user filtering on contact lists and pipeline reports
  • August 8, 2013: Improved email logging
  • August 7, 2013: Option to choose your default email client in the CRM 
  • July 15, 2013: Contact relationships - create links to track relationships between contacts
  • April 10, 2013: Simpler, more powerful user-to-user contact permissions
  • Mar 11, 2013: Admins can block exporting permissions for sub-users
  • Dec 6, 2012: Version 3.5: Completely new design and navigation, pop-out list browsing, enhanced beginner's guide, and more!
  • Dec 6, 2012: Google Contact Sync
  • Apr 23, 2012: MailChimp integration
  • Mar 6, 2012: Automatic email logging BCC functionality
  • Mar 5, 2012: Expanded file storage limit (10 GB)
  • Feb 28, 2012: Duplicate contact merging
  • Feb 3, 2012: Skype integration
  • Jan 1, 2012: New billing system
  • Jan 1, 2012: UTF-8 support, so that almost any language works with LACRM
  • Nov 1, 2011: Version 3.0: New features include file uploads, custom fields on opportunities, and a completely new design.
  • July 1, 2011: Calendar (previously we only had a simple to-do list)
  • Feb 15, 2011: Version 2.0: New features include custom contact fields, a new UI for opportunities, printable reports, the recent activity feed, and the dashboard.

Of course, we're constantly making minor improvements which aren't included on this list. The best way to stay up to date with changes to the CRM is to subscribe to our newsletter. We include round-ups of more minor or incremental releases in those emails, which go out a couple times a month.
